Gibson Desert, Western Australia, September 19-28, 1997.
In September 1997 I travelled to the Gibson Desert on a research
expedition with people from
CALM
and the
Perth Observatory.
Being a keen amateur astronomer, this was a chance to observe the
night sky from some of the most isolated and darkest skies in Australia.
Our expedition had three main goals
| 1) |
Research into the effects on native animals from the baiting for feral predators at Eagle Bore Camp. |
| 2) |
Astronomical observation and photography of the night sky from a remote location. |
| 3) |
A trip to Surveyors General Corner to
celebrate the 75th anniversary of the 1922 Boundaries Act.
Surveyors General Corner is where the borders of Western Australia, South Australia
and the Northern Territory intersect. This landmark is not accessable to the
public as it is situated in a restricted Aboriginal Reserve. |
