Two Comets on the way posted Mon 01st March 2004 at 11:25 by stuart |
A pair of comets may be set to put on a good show for local observers in 2004.
The first is Comet C/2001 Q4 (NEAT) currently around magnitude 8.0 in the southern constellation of Tucana. By May the predicted magnitude could be around 2.0 which may see it being observed with the naked eye in the constellation Canis Major.
The second is Comet C/2002 T7 (LINEAR). This comet will stay close to the sun for the next month or so, but will emerge in the evening sky in early May. Only time will tell how bright (or not!) these two comets will become.
